Hello,
IMHO, do not sacrifice the career (either yours or your wife's) for the sake of GC .... the amount of money and experience that you stand to lose by not progressing in the career is very difficult to recoup after you get your GC. In this economy, more experience you gather, better will be your chances of securing a higher position and income. I always chose career over GC ... which delayed my GC by about 5 years, but the extra income and experience have more than made up for it ...
The good news is that you have an approved I-140, so you have a priority date that you can always use irrespective of type of application and/or sponsor (which means, you can file for a new I-140 based on your new job but with the old priority date). Do ask your new employer if they are open to file in EB-2 within one year of your employment based on your performance on the job.
The fall back option in terms of your wife's career is dicey to count on in this economy, IMHO. Your H1-B is a better fallback option while your GC is pending....just my 2-cents! Good luck! :)

No, not at all.. It is just a safety net, which one can use if they switch to EAD i.e. use AC21.

Thats a really bad idea!!
Tell the new employer that you need H1 to work for them, if they don't want to do it then find another job or stick to your current job.
It sucks but that's the law.
Regards.

I believe the intention of not moving too much beyond jul 06 , may be to make some spill over benfit happen to EB3 also. If they open the gate for EB2 now, lots of 485 application may come in and there may not be spill over to EB3. :)

See how bad EB3 I shape is...
7,100 until 2002 Dec. That means, 2.5+ years before it hits Jan 1, 2003.
What about the people with PD > 2005. 33,400 / 2800 per year. 11+ years. :)

He will armtwist Congress to pass it like he got the Iraq funding bill passed (w/o plan for withdrawal).....We should have a plan to bring in our ammdts as soon as the bill hits floor again...

Hi All,
I received the I-485 reciept notice yesterday from my lawyer (see below for my info), but the alien number on I-485 is different from the number on my approved I-140. My I-140 has a number starting with A099, but my I-485 reciept notice has a number starting with A088. Someone in this forum mentioned that A099 is for the primary applicant and A088 is for the dependant. I am the primary applicant for I-485, so if it is true, I should get A099, not A088. I am not sure if I can have two different alien numbers or if this is a mistake by USCIS. Is anyone in the same situation?
I am sorry if this issue is discussed previously (I couldn't find the related thread). I would greatly appreciate your input.
Thank you very much.

Don't worry about it. When you go to FP appointment point this out to IO. You are correct "usually" 099 for primary & 088 for dependents. The "A" number is assigned at I-140 approval; that is "usually" the number you have on your receipts & GC when issued.("A" number is Alien Registration number and NOT the actual visa. The "A" number will be assigned to a visa once you get approved for GC.) There have been a few people on various threads have this happen to them. Just let the IO at FP know and they will help you OR speak to your lawyer about it. Note: Some applicants actually end up with a different "A" number on GC approval all together. So don't sweat it!
Cheers,
LRIndy. I am not a lawyer always consult one before making a decision.

Colbert, Immigrant Farm Workers Challenge Pundits And Unemployed To 'Take Our Jobs' (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/06/24/colbert-immigrant-farm-wo_n_624875.html?ir=Politics)
In a tongue-in-cheek call for immigration reform, farm workers are teaming up with comedian Stephen Colbert to challenge unemployed Americans: Come on, take our jobs.
Farm workers are tired of being blamed by politicians and anti-immigrant activists for taking work that should go to Americans and dragging down the economy......
So the group is encouraging the unemployed and any Washington pundits or anti-immigrant activists who want to join them to apply for the some of thousands of agricultural jobs being posted with state agencies as harvest season begins.
All applicants need to do is fill out an online form under the banner "I want to be a farm worker" at , and experienced field hands will train them and connect them to farms. TAKEOURJOBS.ORG (http://www.takeourjobs.org)
This is really a good one. It clears out some of the misconceptions among the general public.

I second that. Use their tool to send your own letters.
We are already discussing this on the "Media Drive" thread.
Use one of our IV template letters and send it to the Media.
Let's do this today!
It is just a TOOL to write to senators! No one force you to use their template, and you can and SHOULD write you letter!

My credit union gives mortgage with higher rates for non-GC folks. I also lost on scholarships for not having a GC.
Coming back to the original post, Carbon proposed a great out-of-the-box idea. Nothing wrong in selling this idea to NAHB. They are sitting on their profits from last few years and would not mind sponsoring any IV events at DC perhaps.

I am not sure about the exact Business Analyst vs Programmer Analyst functions, but from my own experience, just make sure that your lawyer makes your job description very broad. It will help you not just in your process with the existing company but also if you were to change the job after 485.

Doesn't hurt to record conversation though - the most that will happen is that the lawyer will say that it is not admissible in a court of law.
If the other party came to know that the conversation was recorded, they can counter sue.
Here is a link for laws surrounding this in each states.

Nope...she is out of status if you lose your H-1b. At any point of time, inside the US, she has to have a valid status. It can be H-4, H-4 extension pending or AOS. If she is not in any of the three, then she is accrueing unlawful presence.
